St. Mark's. Please help yourself to an Information
Directory located on the desk in the narthex. Please fill
out a worship attendance card located in the pews; you
may place these in the offering plate today.
Nursery Care is available for children ages infant to
four years old in the preschool classroom on the first
floor to the right of the sanctuary.
Busy Bags For Kids During Worship: Children can pick up a
"busy bag" from the yellow poles in the
narthex. Please return the bag to the basket under the
poles after each worship. Older children can receive a
"Celebrate" bulletin from the ushers.
Large Print Worship Booklets and Hearing Devices are
available at the narthex desk.
THIS WEEK
St. Mark's Book Group: We are
still reading some great books and meeting monthly at
7:00 a.m. at the Starbucks on 29th Ave. monthly to
discuss them. Our next meeting is on Wednesday, August
30th discussing Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. On
September 27th we will discuss the book Night by Elie
Wiesel. Join us!
Picnic at Comstock Park on Labor Day: Spokane Symphony's
Labor Day Concert will be on September 4th in Comstock
Park. Join the St. Mark's group at the concert beginning
at 4:00 p.m. Look for familiar faces directly south of
the symphony shell just under the trees. Bring a chair,
food to share, table service and your choice of a drink.

MEN WITH SOME TIME AND ENERGY-Have we got something for
you! Let's meet for devotions, Bible study, and
fellowship. Join us for an organizational meeting on
Wednesday, September 6th at 9:00 a.m. in the library.

Sunday School Teacher Meeting and Dinner at the Parish
House on Wednesday, August 30th at 5:30 p.m. The Pastors
will serve dinner, followed by a brief teaching time.

September 31st at 6:30 in the library.

W.W.L. (for 5th - 10th graders) & Confirmation
(grades 8,9 &10) begins on Wednesday, September 6th,
at 6:00 p.m. If you interested in taking part in WWL, but
aren't on our mailing list, please talk to Kevin Benson
ASAP. All parents will need to attend a meeting/dinner on

Brown Bag Book Group will meet Thursday,
September 7th at 11:45 a.m. in the church library. The
book is No God But God by Reza Aslan. Please note the
meeting day has changed to Thursdays. All are welcome.
Sunday School Rally Day is September 10th at
9:45 a.m. with festivities in the fellowship hall. Sunday
School teacher installation will be at the 10:45 worship
on the 10th as well.
St. Mark's Church Council will meet on Monday, September
11th at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish House.
T.T.F. (Twenties, Thirties, Forties)! If you are in this
age category (or close to it!) please join us on Sunday,
Sept 10th at 5:00 p.m. at the home of Darin & DeeDee
Pike (6910 S Shelby Ridge), for an evening of great food
and fellowship. Bring a side dish, appetizer or dessert,
plus whatever beverage you prefer to drink, and the
Pike's will provide the meat. Please RSVP to the Pike's
at 534-3259, or email dddpike@comcast.net. They will
provide driving directions to you when you contact them.
New Member Classes: Anyone interested in St. Mark's
membership can call Susan Hagen at 624-4701 for more
information. Classes begin Sunday evening, Oct 1st. New
Member Sunday is October 22nd.
MORE EVENTS &
INFORMATION
St. Mark's Church Office will be
closed on Monday, September 4th in observance of Labor
Day.
Congratulations! Our Lutheran congregations and community
surpassed our fund-raising goal for the Habitat for
Humanity Homes! The goal was $23,581, and we raised
$24,262. Our three Thrivent homes will be dedicated later
in August. Thank you for your support in raising the
money, helping to build and providing food, prayers, and
support! Thanks also to John Olsen and Nancy Barker for
being our congregational Champions!
New Hymnals Are Coming!! In November the new Evangelical
Lutheran Worship book will be introduced at St. Mark's.
To prepare for the purchase of the hymnals we are
planning a big fundraising dinner with entertainment on
Sunday, September 24th. Watch for
more information in the Sept. Messenger newsletter.
Habitat-Thrivent Builds still needs some help to finish
up the homes in Spokane. Clean up, landscaping, and some
painting are now needed. The Build Days are Tuesdays,
12:30-4:00 p.m. & Wed.-Sat. 8:30-4:00 p.m.
St Mark's Preschool has openings in the four-year-old
class that will meet on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
afternoons from 12:30 to 2:45 beginning in September.
Children must be four by August 31st. Contact Hope Wolf
at 448-7132 for more information.
Sunday School Classroom Ready for Paint! We have a Sunday
School classroom prepped and ready to paint and would be
grateful for any volunteers that can complete the
classroom with paint! Please call the office at 747-6677
if you are interested.
