Outreach Ministry

Crosswalk: Ministry to "Street Kids" -- Provide evening meal the fourth Thursday of each month. Volunteers prepare food and bring it to the church to be delivered to the youth. Coordinator: Nancy Barker

Hunger Relief: St. Mark's provides weekly donations to the Spokane Area Food Bank and provides support to ELCA World Hunger, Bread for the World, Lutheran World Relief and Crop Walk. Coordinator: Nancy Barker

Lutheran Community Services: St. Mark's provides rooms for counseling children and parents. We have adopted a social worker from LCS contacts us when LCS clients have special needs. We provide Lutherhaven (local Lutheran year-round camp and retreat center) camperships for LCS foster children.

Lutheran World Relief: St. Mark's supports clothing drives and disaster relief fund raising.

 

Congregational Ministry

Altar Guild: Members prepare altar and sanctuary for worship services and communion. Chairpersons: Ellen Rapkoch, Elaine Orness, and Ida Felton

Bereavement Meals: Volunteers prepare and serve food for bereaved families and friends following funeral/memorial service. Coordinator: Lenora Jacobson

Pastoral Assistant/Visitation: Communion for members who are confined. Coordinator: Verna Eucker

Mary Cares: Provides support for members and members families in times of special needs. They mail cards, provide meals and provide whatever care is appropriate. Birthday cards are also sent to those in our Parish who are 80 years old or over. Mary Cares meets the first Wednesday of each month. Coordinator: Elaine Orness

Prayer Chain: Prayers for the ill, hospitalized, bereaved and those in need. Coordinator: Sue Luppert

Tape Ministry: Taping of Sunday services for shut-ins and others who are unable to attend services. Volunteers assist with taping and distributing tapes. Coordinator: Vendela Anderson

Cancer Support Group: Provides mutual support for members dealing with cancer, either in treatment or remission. Coordinator: Elaine Orness

 

 

Fellowship Ministry

ELCA Circles (women's groups)

Elizabeth Circle: Meets third Tuesday of each month, 7:30 p.m. at Starbucks on 29th for dessert, fellowship and support. Their outreach project is Lutheran World Relief's Layette Project. President: Peggy Patterson

Ruth Circle: Meets second Thursday of each month, 9:30 a.m. Bible Study and outreach projects include providing paper products for Ogden hall and Union Gospel Mission, LSS and Lutherhaven. President: Jeanne Wennes

Walking Circle: Meets monthly, 9:00 a.m. for a one to two mile walk, followed by coffee and fellowship. Coordinator: Dee Lorenz

Moms Night Out: The Moms group meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month from 7-9 p.m. for a fellowship activity in the Parish House. Babysitting is provided. Contact: Pastor Beth Jarrett

Grand Old Men: A senior men's fellowship which meets monthly for excursions and/or lunch. Coordinator: Art Vogt

Men of St. Mark's: Meets second Tuesday of each month, 7:30 p.m. at the Parish House. Diversified discussion topics relating to Christians in today's society. Coordinator: Monty Smick

Young Adult Fellowship: Twenty-one to 40 somethings meet for the fun of being together. Contact: Pastor Eric Dull

Youth Fellowship: Groups for Kindergarten through High School providing structured fellowship and activities. Please see Youth for more information. Contact: Kevin Benson

College Group: Meets for fellowship on a intermittent schedule, contact the Director of Youth Ministry: Kevin Benson for more information.

Live Wires: Adult group meets quarterly for a variety of activities.

Brown Bag Book Group: Meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 11:45 to 12:45 to discuss books of spiritual and theological significance. Contact: Pastor Beth Jarrett

Morning Book Group: Meets at Starbucks on 29th on the last Wednesday of each month. Books are announced in the newsletter and weekly bulletin. Pastor Eric Dull

Diakonia Guild: Meets fourth Tuesday of each month September through May at several different churches. Diakonia Guild is a group of volunteers providing financial support and assistance to Lutheran Community Services Northwest. It is open to all Christian women. Contact: Marie Moe
